Matthew 14:28-30

28″Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29″Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Turn your eyes upon Jesus…

Peter said to Jesus, Lord if that is really You! Tell me to come to you (which means make me walk on water, Lord!). Not long after, Peter started to walk on water. How could a man walk on water? But Peter did walk on water. There is power in looking at Jesus, if you think about it, there is NO PRINCIPLE nor STEPS to do it. Jesus did not say, alright Peter if you really want to walk on water, here is the manual book, please read it and study it and apply it. Peter simply got out of the boat and walk, he had the faith to do it. I believe when you focus your eyes on Jesus, faith is no longer an issue for you as your focus is on The Author and Finisher of our Faith which is Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). Peter did not pray, he did not fast, he did not convince himself, he simply just BELIEVED.

So many times we hear messages or sermons that start with Jesus but you rarely hear them end with Jesus, they are always something we MUST DO for God or now that you have heard the Gospel go do something (which often makes new believers feel condemned). I do believe in doing good because every human being is created in God’s image and we are a NEW CREATION in Christ. It is just a matter of time when every believer will do good works.

An apple tree WILL PRODUCE apples, in the same way with every believer that we WILL BEAR ONLY GOOD FRUITS since we are a NEW CREATION in Christ. Something supernatural will produce these through you. Realize that The King of Kings, The Wisdom of all Wisdoms, The best Encourager, The God that created the universe (which includes gazillions of stars) is in us. What makes us thing that He is not going to do good things through us? When you know the true VINE which is Jesus Christ (John 15), your FOUNDATION is set right and you will bear much FRUITS in your life.

By simply looking at Jesus, Peter walked on water. He started walking towards Jesus. How good is this? By SIMPLY LOOKING AT JESUS , we will walk on water and we will end up fulfilling God’s will not by our strength but by resting in Him. There is something supernatural when we cast our cares on Jesus. I do not know why, yet it is so REAL! God wants us to live life carefree not carelessly.

We might think that the more we CARE about others the more we LOVE them, really what that means is that we do not put our trust in Jesus. Once we are in that position, we are like Peter, beginning to SINK, because we are trying to look for answers or help on something else but Jesus. We start to use WORLDLY WISDOMS and our EXPERIENCES. No longer we turn our eyes upon Jesus but upon other things. When we turn our eyes upon other things, worry will come in and once we are worried about what is happening around us, we are automatically turning our eyes on OURSELF.

The world trusts on SELF. I can do this, I can achieve this with my own strengths, I am good at this, I have degrees in this. Some people think that once they are successful they think that it’s because I have been working hard or because I have been putting a lot of hours to it. But really if you are successful that is because God’s favour is all over your life and yet it feels so NATURAL that you think you have done it by yourself without God’s favour or help.

That is what happened to Peter, he found it so natural for him to look around (to look at the surrounding circumstances) and get worried rather than trusting and putting his cares on Jesus and continue to turn his eyes upon Jesus. This would not make sense to the world because the world always tells you, You MUST DO this, You MUST DO that, You MUST APPLY these principles. The world would not understand why believers always talk about Jesus all the time, well I really believe that He is our only Hope.

One thing I know that Jesus died on the cross for me. By turning our eyes upon Jesus, we are putting all our trusts and cares on Him alone.

Stay blessed
